Herbal teas came into our lives a long time ago. However, their ingredients are still not known for sure and those that are known can lead to various problems in children and pregnant women. Therefore, excessive consumption of herbal teas might do harm rather than gain favor during pregnancy. There are even some findings that excessive use of some herbs leads to disability at birth.

Herbal Teas That Are Not Unfavorable for Pregnant Women:

  • Raspberry

Which herbal teas must not be drunk during pregnancy?

The following teas might stimulate contractions etc. and they must not be drunk during pregnancy:

  • Aloe Vera
  • Carnation
  • Saffron
  • Lavender
  • Basil oil
  • Mistletoe
  • Cinnamon
  • Oil of thyme
  • Parsley (must not be drunk, can be used in dishes)
  • Alder

  • Jasmine

Plants are not always innocent. It might lead to serious health problems if you buy herbs, the content and benefits of which you do not know, and use them based on the thought that “herbal remedies are better than medications”. These health problems include threats of premature birth, miscarriage, bleeding.

To sum up, instead of considering herbal teas to be innocent, we must be aware of the reality that medications used today  are made from herbs and consult a doctor before drinking herbal teas.
